Uluwatu
Uluwatu #2
It feels good to be back in Uluwatu. Besides the stunning sunsets off the cliffs in Uluwatu and the white beautiful beaches down here, Uluwatu as one more unique thing to offer: really extravagant clubs.
Lots of parties for old(er) backpackers like us
On this world trip, we haven’t been partying a lot. But we did not miss outstanding parties, such as the “Sunday Funday Pool Crawl” in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua or the “Tree House Party” in Granada, Nicaragua or the “Filthy Friday Island Hopping Party” on Bocas del Toro, Panama. Furthermore, we have gone to different concerts to see Kygo in Lima, Peru and in Sydney, Australia as well as Ed Sheeran in Perth, Australia.
And the concert today should add to that list: we were going to see the DJ Meduza live in the club “Savaya”.
Party at Savaya
First of all, Savaya is quite the fancy club with an infinity pool overlooking the cliffs of Uluwatu. We made sure we came here early in order to experience it during day time as well as night night. It was really impressive!
Where are the “real” people?
However, I couldn’t shake off this feeling that everything felt a little superficial here… People were:
- posing in the pool instead of swimming in it.
- dancing in front of their phones instead of together with their friends.
- facing the ocean for the “perfect shot” instead of looking out for sunset.
It all seemed a little fake and shallow to me. But I get it: you do want to share these moments with your friends that can’t experience it in real life – we “obviously” took photos as well.
But for us enjoying the music and the location in real life meant more than viewing it all through a screen and “living our best life” on some social media platform.
We still enjoyed the experience, but this left me a little bit unsatisfied.
24/04/2023 From Uluwatu to Denpensar
One last pool time
Today we enjoyed the morning at the hotel’s pools. By conicidence, we had picked a hotel (Seno Guest House) that is located right next to the hotel (Tom’s Inn) that we had stayed at last week in Uluwatu. This is why we knew the area really well.
We had breakfast at “The Chai”, which was a really quaint tea shop with delicious breakfast!
A new Indonesian island
In the afternoon we took a taxi to Denpansar as we were going to catch a boat very early tomorrow morning to another Indonesian island that we had both never been to before.
