What to expect
Aschau im Chiemgau
Visiting the castle
At 7a.m. we woke up by a massive beeping garbage truck that picked up the garbage right next to us. Good morning to you too!
After having breakfast in our camping chairs next to our van again, we walked to the castle close by to fly the drone (I am always a bit panicky when we are doing this as I always think we are going to lose the drone…and people who know me also know that by “a bit” I mean A LOT).
Oberaudorf
Hike up the mountain “Hocheck”
Driving along the beautiful alp street again with a picture perfect countryside around us, we went to the next town: Oberaudorf. Here we did a hike up the mountain “Hocheck”. Usually you can toboggan all the way but unfortunately it was also closed due to covid (I’m sure the Italien guy could have predicted that as well). We made it to the middle station after a one-hour-hike where we stopped to fly the drone (I looked away this time so that I didn’t have to freak out again) and had some beers there (making it half way up is also a reason to celebrate, right?!).
Tatzlwurm Waterfall
After walking down, we drove further on the German alp street and stopped at the Tatzlwurm Waterfall. To be fair we have both seen more stunning waterfalls before but it was on the way so we thought, why not?!
Schliersee
Whiskey tasting
Arriving at the Schliersee, we had a quick stop in the SLYRS whiskey distillery, bought some whiskey and some home made spreads and dips next door (as you do as a tourist) and finally stopped right at the lake.
Relaxing by the lake
We had a picknick by the lake and soaked in the last sun rays of the day.
We parked our van in a residential area at some car park at the end of a street by the Schliersee. Our neighbours were probably all millionaires which made it even funnier to crawl into the van at night after brushing our teeth right next to them.
Typical Bavarian dinner
For dinner we walked into town and wanted to get some take-away at a restaurant right by the lake. We saw two couples eating their dinner in the restaurant’s beer garden so I asked the waiter if we could do the same. His response was that we are not allowed to, but we can do it if we like. So eating dinner in take-away boxes and drinking wine and beer out of plastic cups in a beer garden while overlooking the lake is probably the clostest we can get to eating out these days.
The small things in life ;-)..
