16/04/2023 From Uluwatu to Tanah Lot
Away from the touristy places
We spent a very relaxing morning by the pool in Uluwatu until we caught the taxi to a less touristy place just 20 minutes north of Canggu. Since it took forever to drive through the touristy and crowded places in Kuta and Canggu, I was grateful for leaving them behind.
Tanah Lot
When we turned into the last road, we were surrounded by rice fields, cows grassing and a few locals – and our hotel D’Sawah Villas at the end of the street.
The hotel (less than 13€ p.p. per night) was beautiful! The pool area was great and our room was clean, bright and spacious with palm trees and mango trees in front of it.
From one pool to the next
After some pool time (as the only ones), we walked to the beach for sunset. The entrance of “The Beach Love” was literally right next to our hotel. Without knowing it this was quite a famous beach bar for watching sunset amongst locals.
Being almost the only tourists we found two bean bags in the first row right in front of the cliffs where we ordered two coconuts and dinner. We loved the amazing views of the sun setting into the ocean while a DJ was playing music.
Every night should end with a coconut and sunset at the beach!
17/04/2023 Tanah Lot and Seminyak
Go food tasting
Today we wanted to try different foods and restaurants that Seminyak has to offer. Coming from our relaxing hotel with no tourists into the busy chaotic streets of Seminyak felt quite overwhelming.
First, we started with breakfast at “Kynd“, which is a vegan café. This prpbably isn’t the best representative of Bali, since there were only tourists inside the café. However, it does offer amazing smoothie bowls and other delicious healthy breakfast options and for that it’s worth it!
For lunch we went to “Nook”, which is nicely located in front of some rice fields and away from the crowds. Our chicken soup and veggie bowl were both delicious and we can highly recommend going here when you are in the Seminyak area.
After that we went to a Balinese restaurant called “Dapoer Asia” for dessert. I tried “kolak”, which is a sweet coconut soup with banana and yucca/ cassava inside. It was VERY sweet and I didn’t quite enjoy it, but I’m still glad I tried something local.
Watch sunset at Tanah Lot Temple
In the evening we drove to Tanah Lot Temple for sunset.
Tanah Lot means “Land [in the] Sea” in the Balinese language. […] the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.”
wikipedia.org
It was a beautiful temple site. But for our taste there were too many tourists taking too many selfies. (Which is weird to say since we are tourists ourselves doing the exact same thing…)
18-20/04/2023 Tanah Lot
Slowing down
After having been on the road for 9.5 months, it can be nice to move less and stay at one place for a bit longer. Granted, in the entire time on the road we haven’t really done that yet, since we’ve been constantly on the go. This is exciting and we love that lifestyle a lot! But sometimes it is nice to do less research on the next accommodation, the next activity and the next place to eat at, and instead just recharge our batteries.
This is why the following three days looked like this:
- Breakfast at “Little Ripper”
- Relaxing by the pool
- Getting a massage
- Eating at a local warung or at a nice restaurant
- Watching the surfers
- Having a sunset cocktail at “The Beach Love”
We feel like we needed this mini-vacation in order to be ready for our next big adventure: Chasing waterfalls in North Bali.
