14/04/2023 From Canggu to Uluwatu
One last breakfast at Crate Café
Before we were taking a taxi to Uluwatu, we had one last delicious breakfast at our favourite spot Crate Café.
What to expect
Uluwatu
Uluwatu is a region on the south-western tip of the Bukit Peninsula of Bali, Indonesia. The name Uluwatu comes from ulu, meaning ‘lands end’, and watu, meaning ‘rock’.”

Relaxing time at the pool
Today we mainly relaxed at the pool once we arrived at our hotel “Tom’s Inn“.
Watch sunset at Karang Boma Cliff
In the evening we rented a scooter and drove to Karang Boma Cliff. Here we bought two bintang beers and enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the cliffs.
Eat at a local warung
Afterwards we ate dinner at a local warung. We had a delicious gado gado (veggies and tofu with peanut sauce) and a chicken dinner as well as a fruit smoothie and a fresh coconut for less than 3€ each! We love Balinese food (and its pricing)!

Check out different beaches
Today we were quite ambitious and wanted to check out four different beaches. Spoiler alert: We only made it to one!
After a tasty breakfast at “Tarabelle” we drove to the beach “Pantai Pandawa”. The wide streets, that are unusual for Bali, had clearly been made for more traffic.
But the area looked completely deserted and more like a ghost area. One of the Balinese officers told us that a Swiss company had started to build here but then ran out of money (hence all the unfinished buildings).
The beach, however, looked stunning with its crystal clear water and white sandy beaches. These are the types of beaches we had been hoping for to see in Canggu. But in Canggu the beaches were more crowded with darker sand instead.
We rented a sunbed with a sun umbrella and a fresh coconut (for 3€ each in total) and enjoyed the beach and swimming in the ocean that we had almost entirely to ourselves.
Watch sunset at Single Fin
After a quick shower at home (Blake hates being sandy and having salt water on him – the perfect beach boy, I tell ya 😉), we drove to the famous “Single Fin” bar for sunset.
We had already been here in 2019 for a Sunday cliff party and for sunset. It has a stunning view, its own dj and an infinity pool from where you can enjoy sunset with a cocktail. This is definitely a perfect place for watching sunset over the cliffs in Uluwatu (if you don’t mind all the other people around you).
One more warung
After sunset we had dinner at another warung, called “Yeye’s Warung”. Lots of warungs, as well as this one, offer a buffet menu for very little money. The advantage is that you get a lot of variety for a small price. Furthermore, they also offer a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.
The downside, however, is that the food has been sitting there for a while and is often only luke warm. We really enjoyed the food though. Unfortunately, the next day Blake got what they call “Bali belly” over here (which is a cute form of saying “food poisoning”). I feel like we jinxed his stomach bug a bit since we had talked about that topic while eating here (I know: great dinner topic). On the other hand, the meat might have not been good anymore, as everything else we ate was the same.
Tomorrow we will be off to Bali’s west coast, away from all the tourists and chaos. But we are hoping to be back in Uluwatu for one more highlight here…
