You can’t give your life more time, so give the time you have left more life.”
What to expect
Seeing each other in Germany
Actually, this wasn’t the next time Blake and I got to see each other again after our Canada trip in winter 2018. Blake did come over to Germany in February 2019 to meet my family and friends for the first time. We got to watch a BVB soccer game live (guess, who enjoyed that the most?!), went to Holland for the day and had some (pre-covid) parties with my friends.
Road Trip through British Columbia
Fairmont
In my Spring Break it was time for a road trip around Canada. We left Calgary one day after my arrival and spent the next 4 days in Fairmont, British Columbia, where Blake and his family have a time-share. Here we hiked up the Hoodoos, went to some natural hot springs and enjoyed the time with Blake’s family. Blake and I are really competitive, so it was great to challenge each other in the park’s rec centre in some dart, racquet ball or shuffleboard.
Summerland
After Fairmont, Blake and I drove further to Summerland in British Columbia, where Blake took part in a hockey tournament. It was great seeing Blake play ice-hockey for the first time and getting to know some more of Blake’s friends. Summerland is also known for its vineyards. This is why we did a wine tasting tour around different vineyards. This was after Blake’s team had (surprisingly) won the hockey tournament.
Whistler
From Summerland Blake and I went to Whistler, one of Canada’s ski towns. Coming from Summerland, we were already used to nice warm and sunny spring days, whereas the first thing we saw in Whistler were people on skis and snowboards. We definitely weren’t prepared for going back to winter in April with our sneakers and light jackets (although what I’ve learnt now is that you should ALWAYS be prepared for winter in Canada 😉). In Whistler we did some nice hikes (rather walks) to different waterfalls and explored the quaint town.
Vancouver
The drive from Whistler to Vancouver was just stunning! We only had one night in Vancouver but I instantly fell in love with it. The vibe was great and even though it is a big city, it did not feel like it. Blake and I rented some bicycles and rode around Stanley Park with some really scenic stops on the way. In Vancouver we visited a good friend of Blake’s who we went out with at night and who also let us stay at his place.
The next morning I flew back home from Vancouver while Blake had to drive back all the way to Calgary for 11 hours – both really happy about the past two weeks together, but also really hungover.
For our next trip in summer 2019, we wanted to meet at an exotic destination we both had never been to. Can you guess what we had in mind?
