25/07/2022 From Canada to our first “real” destination on the world trip
Very early start
How do you survive a travel day on 1.5 hrs of sleep? Exactly, with coffee – lots of it!
Shockingly (and also very surprisingly) Blake managed to pack everything before we had to head to the airport at 2.30 in the morning.
Empty airport
I’ve never seen an airport this empty before, not even during covid times when we flew to the Greek Islands in 2020 or to Canada in 2021.
As Blake likes to make fun of me by teasing me that I’m always stressing on travel days and I always want to be extra early at the airport, it was no wonder that we arrived even before the airport staff did. It is true, I do tend to stress “a little”, but to my defence: how many flights would we have missed otherwise with our (lack of) time-management?! You’re welcome, Blake! 😉
From Calgary to Toronto
The first leg of the trip was a three-hour-flight to Toronto where we had an easy six-hour-stopover. At least this way our luggage would also make it onto the next plane in time. We passed the time by telling a few more friends about our happy news and by sorting out all the photos and videos of the past two weeks in Canada – there were lots. With literally Blake’s last coins, we bought some treats at my favourite Canadian fast food chain Tim Horton’s (in short: Timmies) one last time.
Tim Hortons Inc., commonly nicknamed Tim’s or Timmies, is a Canadian multinational fast food restaurant chain. Tim Hortons serves coffee, doughnuts, and other fast food items. It is Canada’s largest quick-service restaurant chain, with 4,949 restaurants in 15 countries as of March 2, 2022. The company was founded in 1964 by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton (1930–1974) and Jim Charade (1934–2009).”

What I do (and don’t) like about flying
There are two things I love most about flying:
• the board entertainment with the latest movies
• and the airplane food.
Sadly, Air Canada did not serve any (free) food on neither of the two flights!! And as my cheap backpacker mind was kicking in, I was too stubborn to pay for anything. That’s where Timmies muffin and doughnuts came in handy 😉.
We made it!
After a very long day of travelling with way too little sleep and way too many turbulences, we finally arrived at our first destination of our world trip:
Let’s see what Costa Rica has to offer!
